Hidden storage

last week I was shooting two of our small space interiors with colleague Sarah Hartill. We found some great spaces to feature this year, so keep an eye out for the September 2011 issue, on stands August 1st.

With one of the spaces in particular, owned by a designer who works for Brian Gluckstein, the small interior shown how hands-on and creative he was. The space is so stylish with so numerous great DIYs. I don’t want to give anything away, but here is a teaser…

He found this beautiful dresser from a flea market, but it was missing the drawers so he got it for a great price. He lined the two drawer openings with covered boards cut to size (sides, top and bottom of each space) to give each area a finished look.

Here’s the trick: The stacked books in the top opening are fakes — just covers of old inexpensive Reader’s digest hardcovers, simply mounted on another covered board, placed in front of his DVD player and stack of films. So clever…

I loved how every corner of this small space was considered — very inspirational!
